Mobile App Pairing

QR code for pairing the mobile app
Open the abookify app on your phone and scan this QR code,
or enter the server URL manually.
Mints a new public hostname. Existing paired devices will need to re-scan the QR code, and you'll need to restart the relay container so it advertises the new address.

Security

Optional but highly recommended — without a password, anyone with your server's public URL can read your library, stream audio, and use the AI features. The password gates everything except the login screen.
Leave blank to keep the current password.

Readers

Everyone in your household reads from this one library, but each person keeps their own place, bookmarks, and Q&A. Add the people you share with — each signs in with their own name and password.

Library locations

The folders Abookify scans for books. Add external drives or network shares here. An unplugged/unmounted drive shows as offline — its books are kept and marked stale, never deleted.

Local Services

These run locally on your server. No API keys needed; your audio and text are processed here, not sent to a cloud provider.

Keys

Add a key once per service — it can be added before anything uses it. We only send the minimum a feature needs, and only when you use that feature.

Lets Book Q&A find relevant passages by meaning, not just matching keywords. Without it, Q&A falls back to keyword search. Requires an AI provider that supports it (OpenAI or Ollama).
Sweeps the library directory and ingests anything the file watcher missed. Safe to re-run. Files unchanged since the last scan are skipped, so a repeat rescan finishes in under a second.
Re-syncs each audiobook to its ebook — for every book that has both — so the reader can follow along word by word. Safe to re-run. Progress lands in the System Console.

Writes a self-contained .abook per aligned book to your library's exports folder — the offline bundles mobile sideloads. By default each bundles the audiobook + original ebook + alignment: the alignment is edition-locked to that exact recording, so a bundle without its audio isn't portable. The full set is therefore large (multi-GB). Tick Text-only for a small, text-only set (audio then streams from the server). Runs in the background; safe to re-run.
Looks up cover art on OpenLibrary for any book that has none. Best-effort — books with a junk title or no author may not resolve. Safe to re-run.
